Dent legislation to extend Pesticide Application Safety Committee passes House

House Bill 2302 sponsored by 13th District Rep. Tom Dent that would extend the Pesticide Application Safety Committee until 2035 passed the state House of Representatives unanimously on Thursday.

“When we created the committee, we set an expiration date of 2025. However, it is working well and we want to leave it in place,” said Dent, R-Moses Lake. “This legislation would allow the committee to continue its work and improve pesticide application safety.”

In 2018, a task force looked at methods to improve pesticide application safety and data collection. The task force recommended the creation of the Pesticide Application Safety Committee, which was formed in 2019.

The bill now heads to the Senate for further consideration.

The 2024 legislative session is scheduled to adjourn on March 7.
