House unanimously passes Rep. Tom Dent’s bill to add a definition of “streams” in the Shoreline Management Act

House Bill 2046, which would establish a definition of “streams” in the Shoreline Management Act (SMA), was unanimously approved today by the state House of Representatives. The bill was sponsored by Rep. Tom Dent, R-Moses Lake.

“This is a simple bill that would make a big impact for irrigation districts by providing a framework for a variety of jurisdictional issues regarding irrigation facilities,” said Dent. “I was glad to see the legislation unanimously approved by the House.”

House Bill 2046 would remove irrigation facilities from the jurisdiction of the SMA and establish a definition of “streams” to mean naturally occurring bodies of periodic or continuously flowing water contained within a channel.

The bill was unanimously approved in the House Local Government Committee, Feb. 18. With today’s approval, the bill now goes to the Senate for further consideration. The 2015 session is scheduled to adjourn April 26.
