Rep. Tom Dent talks about protection of livestock during wildfires

Rep. Tom Dent, R-Moses Lake, talked with Glenn Vaagen of the Washington Ag Network about his bill that would allow ranchers to access public lands during wildfires in order to rescue their animals.  The Department of Natural Resources frowns on the practice, and Dent said it has led to legal action in the past.  His goal is to allow those who manage livestock to practice proper animal husbandry and save the lives of animals who may be in a fire zone.  His bill would put liability back onto the rancher should there be a negative event during the time of rescue.  And the measure also requires that ranchers not impede efforts of firefighters battling a fire.  The bill is being considered by the Senate.
