Statements from Reps. Tom Dent and Alex Ybarra on passing of former 13th District legislator Joyce Mulliken
Former 13th District legislator Joyce Mulliken passed away on Saturday, June 26. Mulliken served in the House of Representatives from 1995 – 2003 and in the Senate from 2003 – 2006. Mulliken resigned from her Senate seat in 2006 after being appointed to the Growth Management Hearings Board.
Washington State Reps. Tom Dent, R-Moses Lake, and Alex Ybarra, R-Quincy issued the following statements:
Rep. Dent:
“I knew Joyce before she got into politics. She was hard working and always had the best interests of the district in mind. Joyce was courageous and was never afraid to take a stand. We didn’t always agree, but we always managed to reach an understanding, no matter the issue. Joyce was a problem-solver and had a certain energy about her. She will be missed greatly. The Thirteenth District lost a great leader, community member and friend. I wish her family the best.”
Rep. Ybarra:
“We’ve lost one of our best. The work Joyce did on behalf of our district has left an enviable legacy. She was a real fighter who passionately served her constituents. It’s with the utmost respect and honor that I offer my condolences to her family and our community over her passing.”
