Ellensburg student serves as page in the state House of Representatives
Marchel Hanna, a homeschooled student from Ellensburg, recently spent a week at the state Capitol serving as a page in the Washington State House of Representatives. Sponsored by Rep. Tom Dent, R-Moses Lake, Marchel got a hands-on look at how state government works while helping keep things running behind the scenes.
“It was great to have Marchel here,” said Dent. “She worked hard, learned a lot, and I hope she had a good time. I always enjoy sponsoring students from our district. It’s a great opportunity for them to see how things work and bring that knowledge back home.”
As a page, Marchel helped deliver messages and documents, worked on the House floor, and assisted lawmakers and staff. She also attended page school, where she learned more about the legislative process and how laws are made.
Back in Ellensburg, Marchel stays busy with church activities, including AWANA, and helps with farming responsibilities.
“As a rancher, I know how important agriculture is to our way of life,” Dent added. “It’s great to see young people like Marchel passionate about farming. I hope she takes what she’s learned here and keeps working hard for her community and agriculture.”
The House Page Program is open to students ages 14 to 16. For more information, visit https://leg.wa.gov/learn-and-participate/civic-education-programs/page-program/.
