Royal High School student spends a week at the Capitol as a House page
Ricardo Garcia, a student at Royal High School, recently traveled to Olympia to serve as a page in the Washington State House of Representatives. Sponsored by Rep. Tom Dent, R-Moses Lake, Ricardo spent a week learning about the legislative process while helping with the daily work of the House.
“This is such a great program for students, and I was glad to sponsor Ricardo,” said Dent. “He showed up ready to learn and did a great job. I hope he enjoyed his time at the Capitol.”
During his week as a page, Ricardo delivered messages and documents, helped on the House floor, and worked with legislative staff. He also attended page school, where he got a closer look at how laws are made and how state government works.
Outside of school, Ricardo is a dedicated athlete, competing in both wrestling and cross country.
“I always enjoy meeting students from our district, and Ricardo was no exception,” Dent added. “It’s great to see young people get involved and see government in action. I know he has a bright future ahead.”
The House Page Program gives students ages 14 to 16 the chance to experience the legislative process up close. For more information, visit: https://leg.wa.gov/learn-and-participate/civic-education-programs/page-program/.
