Rep. Tom Dent issues statement on operating budget signed into law by Gov. Ferguson
On Tuesday, Gov. Bob Ferguson signed a record-breaking $78 billion operating budget that relies on nearly $10 billion in new taxes and fees. State Rep. Tom Dent, R-Moses Lake, issued the following statement:
“Before the legislative session, I served on the governor’s transition team where I shared my input and support for scaling back the budget, rather than increasing spending, taxes and fees. The governor also discussed cutting government spending by up to six percent, and instead we are seeing an eight percent increase. I shared my input and support for scaling back the budget, rather than increase spending as well as taxes and fees. This budget continues to lead Washington state down a path of unsustainability, I am genuinely disappointed the governor did not cut back spending or limit the tax revenue bills.
“It is time for a different approach – one that demonstrates fiscal stability and protects our taxpayers.”
